Interested in a journalism degree? 

Course work and experience leading to a journalism degree prepare students to work within the fields of traditional, innovative and emerging media. The career-focused curriculum combines classroom, experiential and collaborative learning with research and specialty centers, enabling students to apply their talents toward relevant and current issues. Students acquire a broad foundation while achieving in-depth knowledge of specific areas. 

Founded more than 100 years ago, MSU’s School of Journalism is recognized as one of the best in the nation and is among the few U.S. journalism programs that have been continuously accredited since 1949. 

The undergraduate journalism degree offers thematic areas for writing, reporting and editing; broadcast journalism; environment, science and health; international reporting; sports journalism; media design; media relations; photojournalism; information graphics; and journalism education. Students can choose optional minors in animation and comics, public relations, documentary production, entrepreneurship and innovation, and sales leadership. 

ALUMNI PURSUITS

Graduates with a journalism degree are prolific and enigmatic communicators. They win Emmy awards and Pulitzer prizes, and they inform and change the world. Critical thinking, excellent writing and superb visual communication skills are the hallmarks of graduates.
